to the boys and the men

To that man who grunted words,
Inciting fear and retreats
You poured out the shadows
Leading the storm in

To the fool who licked his lip,
You ran shivers through the ground
And made culprits out of victims
Leaving bitter diamonds behind

To the brother who covers,
You will always be the hero
Standing tall in the light
Bringing hope back

To the men who injured,
You tug then push away
Chain together but carry the knife
Easily cut away the past

To the boy with soft smiles ,
You melt hearts with that gaze
Awaking the pit of the gut
Your rejection was the sweetest

To men in my life,
In and out and all around
Thanks for the scars
Thanks for the bruises
Thanks for the band-aids
And the candy—
but now flowers.

captured

Dance in the night with simple steps
One forward, three back
Every motion is eternal, extending into the shadow
One dim candle brings reality forward
As the lead carries the dagger
But there is comfort in those arms
Poison purely sweet to the weakest

Spin until direction fades in the hour
And clarity crumbles in the minutes
But soon float back to the wall
Swing around and find the chains
Pull away and seem forgotten
Cling on too tight and enter the struggle

One step melts into the ground
Chaos without the beat collapses
Then only the light remains

untitled

These scars on my hands
 Are beauty marks
These scars on my hands
Are signs of a struggle
These scars on my hands
Are  survival
And relief
See how beautiful
In the sunlight
I shall not hide them

praying

Looking up to the sky
A soft embrace took place
Between hope and fear

The cold tears of the night
Shed the truth out of mind
A refuge built on memories
That once sought paradise
Now find reality a home

Cool taps on the brain
Brought relief with a sigh
With eyes closed
To the streaming storm

thinking...

today i normally go to a school to work with a pre-k class.  i really love all the kids there but one little boy has specially captured my heart.  its probably because i understand his quite and shy nature since i was like that when i was little.  i wrote this thinking of him and all the other wonderful little kids.

Lovely boy,
Running free and smiling
Don’t let them poison you
Because they will try
Feed you sweet dreams
Make you think it’s all good news
But those are only pretty images
You will be lost within their walls

Don’t let them make you hate
Then mean are cruel
But there is good,
Look up and you’ll find it
Deep inside their eyes
Don’t let it die,
It lies inside

Don’t let fear takeover
Just because everyone is insecure
Walking on eggshells
You must be courageous
And live beautiful boy.

verso la notte

i am a night person: i love the silence and mystery its filled with.  but most of all, i love the moon.

Run away today
With no map at hand
Your eyes will be the guide

Follow the moon
Never turn back
Carry the night away

The wind’s whispers haunt
Be brave
Defy the path

Soak in the white light
And the coolness sets in
With fireflies nearby

Follow the moon
Don’t be afraid
Just for tonight

encounters

this is about someone, but it could be about anyone.  we all have run in's with people that seem to break the transit of what is 'normal'. also this person will probably never read it...

silence is the language
we interpret from experience
eyes transpire a secret
our solid understanding
locking down a thousand words

lets cradle the past
between sweet embraces
hope to no longer foster that hope
that keeps us chained
and dragging each other along

but since the origin
the seed was planted
an idea that never followed through
now it lingers between soft smiles
between vacant spaces
as our eyes meet again

sticks and stones may break my bones...

Let's face it, words can hurt.  This is about the 'image' that is constantly pushed on us.

Words
verdicts upon release
suspended eternally in the air
hanging over you
voices that whisper
and let you believe
those golden tokens
will keep you going

Words
created the lie
that shed away in the light
as the ink that outlined the face
runs down
and the pallid colors
melt away
revealing a true blush
as beauty beaten on face
never lasts

Words
passages that lead the way
take them and create
or
break them and emerge

Monster Slaying

When I step out,  I sense you  I feel the weight of your eyes following me I hear the whispered thoughts even if you don’t scream them ...
